THE GOSPEL OF JOHN 1.2-3 - "THROUGH HIM"

JOHN 1.2-3: He was in the beginning with God. (3) All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. (ESV) The Bible begins with the revelation, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." (ESV) I believe that the word "God" is a reference to God, the Father, the first person of the Trinity. The Gospel of John begins with an allusion to Genesis 1.1, and in verses 2 and 3 John gives us a fuller understanding of how God's creation of the universe came to pass. God, the Father is the Creator, but He did the creating through Jesus, the Word. Grammatically this is expressed in terms of Jesus acting in personal agency. This idea is in keeping with the way the Apostle Paul expressed it in Colossians 1.16: "For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities — all things were created through him and for him. (ESV) The writing of Paul and John are in agreement, Jesus is the One through whom God's power of creation worked and had its effectiveness and result. And as the last line of Colossians 1.16 says all things were created "for Him", it is for certain that Jesus has the greatest concern for our individual well being. Acts 17.28 says, "in him we live and move and have our being." (ESV) Do you think you are alone and no one cares for you? This is not correct. You have been created by Jesus "for Himself", and He has the highest interest in you and wants the best for you. "Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled", words and music by Paul Hayden
